This is a project in which the government and companies work together to support workers’ domestic travel expenses (vacation expenses) in order to create a free vacation culture within the workplace and revitalize domestic travel destinations. It is jointly supported by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korea Tourism Organization. It is a Korean-style checked vacation system (French national travel incentive system) that was piloted in 2014 and has been steadily expanded since 2018.
Due to the fast-paced nature of Korean workers, it is not easy to live a leisurely life, that is, to maintain a work-life balance. Considering these circumstances, it is said that the initiative was launched to improve the culture of not being able to rest comfortably.
As a result, in a survey of participants who participated in last year’s work leave support project, 89.7% answered “I want to participate again.” This is a business that makes workers satisfied.
Under the Employee Vacation Support Project, if a worker saves 200,000 won, his or her company can save an additional 100,000 won and the government can save an additional 100,000 won, for a total of 400,000 won, which can be used for domestic travel expenses. The 400,000 won accumulated in this way can be freely used at the “Vacation Shop Welfare Mall,” an online mall dedicated to the employee leave support project.
There are a variety of products available, including hotels, airline tickets, trains, rental cars, performance tickets, domestic travel products (packages), and tourist attraction tickets, so you can choose the product you want and enjoy the benefits.
Not everyone can apply for the Employee Leave Support Project, but only those who can apply are limited. Because the company first participates in the support project, then the company’s workers can participate, so individual workers cannot apply for participation.
Therefore, all workers from small and medium-sized businesses, small business owners, mid-sized companies, social welfare facilities, social welfare corporations, and non-profit private organizations participating in the project are eligible to apply.
However, doctors working in hospitals and clinics, lawyers and patent attorneys in the legal service industry, accountants, tax accountants, and labor attorneys in the accounting and tax service industry, pharmacists in the pharmaceutical and medical supply retail industry, large corporations (business groups with mutual investment restrictions), public officials, public institutions, etc. Labor unions cannot participate.
It was planned to support vacation expenses for about 90,000 people in 2023 on a first-come, first-served basis from January 2, 2023 (Monday) until the subsidy runs out. However, on March 29, a plan was announced to increase the number from 90,000 to 190,000. Another opportunity arose. Additional recruitment begins on April 10th.
