Sometimes when using the Internet, the Internet suddenly becomes slow or you need to know what your PC’s Internet speed is. The internet is slow and checking the speed is only a primary method of checking, and does not help in directly solving the problem. If you came to this blog while searching for a solution because your internet connection wasn’t working well or was frequently disconnected, you’ve come to the right place.
▼ Below is a solution when you cannot connect to the Wi-Fi / LAN Internet.

Now, back to the main text.
The way to check your PC’s current internet speed is very simple, and proceed as follows.
1) Access internet speed measurement site (no installation): https://www.speedtest.net/
Speedtest by Ookla – The Global Broadband Speed Test
Test your Internet connection bandwidth to locations around the world with this interactive broadband speed test from Ookla
www.speedtest.net
2) When the screen below appears, click “GO”.
3) Download and upload speed tests are conducted as shown below.
4) After checking the download and upload speeds, the final result appears as follows.
5) In my case, Download: 64Mbps / Upload: 50Mbps were shown, which are very low.
My home internet product has a maximum speed of 100Mbps, but since I use Wi-Fi rather than a LAN cable, it is a little lower than 100.
* A Wi-Fi wireless LAN card is plugged into the desktop and the maximum speed of this wireless LAN card is 867Mbps.
The maximum speed of the Internet modem is 100Mbps, so the actual speed of the PC does not exceed 100.
However, whether it is a LAN cable or Wi-Fi, the actual internet speed is not exactly 100.
This is because in the process of receiving internet, some part is lost.
* PING is low, but if it becomes more than a few tens or hundreds,
When playing a sensitive online game, even for 1 second or 0.1 second, you will immediately feel the interruption.
At that time, refer to the video posted at the beginning of this post and check the Internet.
※ TIP. Tips for purchasing a wireless LAN card
As mentioned earlier in number 5, a higher speed of a wireless LAN card is not necessarily a good thing.
If there is a 30,000 won wireless LAN card with a maximum speed of 1Gbps (=1,000Mbps),
Let’s say you have a 10,000 won wireless LAN card with a maximum speed of 100Mbps.
However, if the maximum speed of my home internet modem is 100Mbps,
Even if you buy a 30,000 won (1Gbps) device, the speed is the same as a 10,000 won device (100Mbps), so it could be a waste of money.
If you really want 1Gbps, buy the wireless LAN card, but also replace the Internet product with 1Gbps.
Q. How do I check the speed of my home internet modem?
You may be wondering here. What is the maximum speed of my home internet product?
The surest and fastest way is to call your telecommunication company and check.
However, there is a way to check it in a hurry in the evening or on the weekend.
(However, reliability is high only if it is a LAN cable = desktops will usually have a LAN cable)
1) First, measure the internet speed of your PC as shown in the picture above.
2) At this time, the maximum download speed can be considered the maximum speed of your home Internet product.
* The basis is as follows
(1) Most computer LAN ports support 1Gbps. (This is almost always the case for desktops and laptops 15 inches or larger)
(2) Therefore, if the maximum internet speed is 1Gbps, the desktop speed will also be 1Gbps.
If the maximum speed of an Internet product is 100Mbps, the desktop speed will also be 100Mbps.
(Of course, the actual speed may drop by tens to hundreds, but the detailed reasons will not be discussed in this post.)
Therefore, based on the LAN Internet speed of my PC, the following conclusion can be reached.
ex.1) My PC’s internet speed is 100Mbps → The internet modem will also be 100Mbps → You can buy a wireless LAN card of about 100Mbps.
ex.2) My PC, 300Mbps → Modem also 300 → Wireless LAN card 300 can be purchased.
ex.3) My PC, 500Mbps → Modem also 500 → Wireless LAN card 500 can be purchased
ex.4) My PC, 1Gbps (=1,000Mbps) → Modem also 1Gbps (1,000Mbps) → Wireless LAN card 1Gbps (1,000Mpbs) purchased
In this way, I learned how to measure my computer’s Internet speed and tips for purchasing a wireless LAN card at the same time.
