According to the Bicycle Act, bicycle roads are classified as follows.
Bicycle roads installed separately from roads and sidewalks by separators, boundary stones, and other facilities similar thereto so that only bicycles and personal mobility devices (hereinafter referred to as “bicycles”) pursuant to Article 2, Subparagraph 19-2 of the 「Road Traffic Act」 can pass
Here, “personal type mobility device” refers to a motorized bicycle specified in subparagraph 19 (b) of Article 2 of the Road Traffic Act, which does not operate when operated at a speed of 25 km/h or higher and whose body weight is less than 30 kg, as prescribed by Ordinance of the Ministry of Public Administration and Security.
Lanes and safety signs or road markings to allow pedestrians such as bicycles to pass
A certain part of the roadway is a lane that is separated from the lanes used by other vehicles with lane and safety signs or road markings so that only bicycles can pass
Bicycle lanes are installed with road markings on the road so that bicycles and other vehicles can pass safely by determining some sections and lanes of roads with less than 2,000 vehicles.
According to Article 20-2 of the Enforcement Rules of the Bicycle Act, electric bicycles must conform to the safety requirements set by the Ordinance of the Ministry of Public Administration and Security in structure and performance. Also, no one shall operate an electric bicycle that does not meet the safety requirements on a bicycle road.
If, in violation of this rule, a person who operates an electric bicycle that does not meet the safety requirements for electric bicycles on a bicycle road is subject to a fine of not more than 500,000 won.
