1. How to register a Kakao Pay transportation card
To register a KakaoPay transportation card, follow the steps below.
1) Open Kakao Talk [More] tab -> Click Kakao Pay
2) Kakao Pay [All] tab -> Click [Mobile Transportation Card] in the [Payment] category

So, let’s go through each step slowly.
1) Open Kakao Talk [More] tab -> Click Kakao Pay
First, go to KakaoTalk. The important thing here is that you have to enter Kakao Talk, not Kakao Pay. If you access KakaoTalk More, you will see the KakaoPay logo as shown in the picture above. Click the Kakao Pay logo shown above to access the Kakao Pay screen.
2) Kakao Pay [All] tab -> Click [Mobile Transportation Card] in the [Payment] category
Access the Kakao Pay screen and click the [All] tab among the top tabs. If you find the [Payment] category on the [All] tab screen, there will be a button that says [Mobile Transportation Card]. Click the [Mobile Transportation Card] button.
3) Click [Issue Mobile Transportation Card]
If you do not have a Kakao Pay transportation card when accessing the [Mobile transportation card] screen, you must first proceed with [Issuing a mobile transportation card]. The picture above is the screen you see when you access the [Mobile Transportation Card] screen after the mobile transportation card has already been issued.
4) Setting settings using NFC
Creating a mobile transportation card is very simple. You need to enable NFC settings first. Go to Android phone [Settings] and change NFC to [Enabled] in [NFC & Contactless Payments]. Since it will be used as a transportation card, it is okay to select either basic mode or card mode.
5) Set up a Kakao Pay Money linked account / Charge a transportation card
Next, you need to link the account to be prepaid to the Kakao Pay transportation card. The account linked to Kakao Pay Money is linked by default. In addition to the basic account, you can additionally enter and connect a bank account of your choice.
After connecting the account, you need to charge the transportation card. There are two ways to recharge the Kakao Pay transportation card: automatic recharge and manual recharge. Automatic recharge is a method of recharging a transportation card by transferring a pre-set amount from a connected account when the balance of the transportation card falls below a certain amount.
For example, if you set ‘when less than 10,000 won’ and ‘30,000 won automatic recharge’ as shown in the picture above, 30,000 won is transferred from your account and recharged whenever the balance of your Kakao Pay transportation card falls below 10,000 won.
Manual recharge is a method in which the user directly recharges the desired amount one by one. You can choose between 10,000 won, 30,000 won, and 50,000 won as shown in the picture on the right above, and you can set the desired amount through direct input.
6) After charging the transportation card (manual or automatic charging), use it to complete
Once the transportation card has been recharged, you can use the Kakao Pay transportation card right away. With your smartphone turned on, just hold it over the bus/subway terminal to make payments right away. This is called tag payment. Payment is made immediately as long as the smartphone is turned on without the need to enter the Kakao Pay screen.
