In short, a national tax refund is a refund that occurs when a taxpayer pays more taxes than the amount of taxes he or she should pay. It occurs when paying taxes such as local taxes, health insurance premiums, labor and child incentives, value-added tax, and comprehensive income tax.
Generally, when a national tax refund occurs, you are notified by mail, but in many cases, unclaimed refunds accumulate as the taxpayer changes his or her address or does not receive the notification.
The National Tax Service’s Hometax is conducting a campaign to find ‘sleeping national tax refunds’ to reduce the financial burden on taxpayers.
Since all citizens are taxpayers, there is a possibility that there may be refunds lying dormant without the taxpayer’s knowledge.
Refunds can be searched on the Hometax website, Sontax (Hometax app), and Government 24. The inquiry process is very simple, so anyone can easily search by referring to the method below.
If the refund has been checked, you can receive the refund in your account or visit the post office in person to receive it in cash.
Those who have difficulty connecting via PC can use the Hometax mobile app ‘Sontax’ to check their national tax refund.
The inquiry method is similar to that of a PC, where you can enter your resident registration number, name, etc. in the ‘Frequently Asked Menu’ or ‘Inquiry Issuance > National Tax Refund > Find National Tax Refund’.
