여권정보증명서 발급방법 How to issue a passport information certificate

The ID cards we generally think of are ‘Resident Registration Card’, ‘Driver’s License’, and ‘Passport’. However, the new version passport (blue electronic passport) does not have the last digits of the resident registration number written on it, so it cannot be used as an ID card.여권정보증명서 발급

In order to use it as an ID card, you must obtain a ‘Passport Information Certificate’ and submit it together before it can be used as an ID card.

Passport Information Certificate can be easily issued anywhere in the country, so if you plan to use your passport as an ID card, please be sure to obtain it in advance.

What is a Passport Information Certificate?
To explain it briefly and simply, it is a document that additionally proves the resident registration number that is not in the new version passport.

Since the document contains the name, resident registration number, passport number, issuance date/expiration date, etc. written on the passport, it can be used to prove your identity by confirming the last digits of the resident registration number.

If you are using the new version passport, we recommend that you download it as a PDF file and keep one on your phone just in case.

How to issue a certificate

The issuance method is really simple. Online issuance is possible through “Government 24” and offline issuance is possible through “Unmanned Civil Service Issuance Machine”.

There is no fee, but personal information must be verified, so identity verification is required. Please use the convenient method among the two methods to receive issuance.

Online issuance
Government 24-menu

After accessing Government 24, search for “Passport Information Certificate”. Then, as shown in the photo above, a service that can be issued in Korean/English will appear.

Choose the required purpose from the two and click the Issue button.

As mentioned earlier, personal information must be verified for issuance. Therefore, you must have a certificate to proceed. We recommend using simple authentication.

Passport Information Certificate-Application-Screen
After authenticating with a certificate and entering the issuance application, your resident registration number will appear as shown in the photo above, and the ‘Check Passport Information’ button will appear.

Here, you can check the passport information and the new version of the passport information in the applicant’s name will be searched. Select the passport information you want to receive and click Apply to simply complete the issuance.

If your passport has expired or is an old version, the certificate issuance process will not proceed with the message ‘Data does not exist’.

In this case, you must reissue your passport with a new version to be able to issue a certificate. These days, you can easily apply for reissue online, so we recommend that you apply for reissue in advance when you have time.

Offline issuance
You can easily find an unmanned civil service machine near the city/county/district office or administrative welfare center. In Seoul, you can even find one at a subway station or mart.

If you do not know where an unmanned civil service machine is near your home, please get information through the link below and search for the location of the unmanned civil service machine.

If you have found the location of the ‘unmanned civil service machine’, please look for the part that says “Passport” in the main menu as shown in the photo above.

However, depending on the type and version of the unmanned civil service machine, the screen location configuration may be slightly different, so please keep in mind that you should press the word “Passport” instead of the button location.

When you press the ‘Passport’ menu, various types of certificates such as ‘Passport Issuance Record Certificate’, ‘Passport Expiration Confirmation Certificate’, ‘Passport Issuance Application Document Certificate’, and ‘Passport Information Certificate’ will appear on the screen.

Among them, find ‘Passport Information Certificate’ and press it, and proceed with identity verification by entering your resident registration number and fingerprint verification.

Select the number of copies to be issued and wait for a moment, and you will be issued the certificate right away.

This is how to issue a passport information certificate.

Unlike the past, the new version of the passport cannot be used as an ID card for identification purposes, so if you want to use your passport as an ID card, you must carry a passport information certificate with you.

It may not be of much use in normal times, but it can be very useful in unexpected situations such as when your ID card is lost, so we recommend that you obtain it in advance when you have time.
