Did you know that there are two ways to obtain a cargo transport worker’s license?
There are generally known CBT test methods and non-test (experiential education) methods.
Let’s look at the test information and cost differences for each method.
First of all, there are conditions for obtaining a driver’s license, aptitude test, etc. before taking the test, so please check those as well!
The cargo transport worker’s certificate is a national qualification that must be obtained to work in the cargo transport industry.
According to the Road Traffic Act, you must have this certificate to drive a commercial truck with a yellow license plate, and if you perform work without a certificate, you will be subject to administrative punishment.
When hiring truck drivers, some small-scale delivery companies complacently claim that no certification is required in order to quickly deploy manpower.
However, please be aware that this is illegal and both the company that hires the unlicensed driver and the driver will be punished! The penalty is stiffer than you think. 👇
In order to take the cargo transport worker certification test, there are additional conditions that must be met in addition to the age requirement of being 20 years or older.
Some people overlook this point and start applying for the test, but please be sure to check these three conditions in advance to avoid wasting valuable fees.
If you do not have a driver’s license, you cannot take the cargo transport worker certification test.
To take the test, you must have a driver’s license of type 1 or 2 (excluding small size).
Among the two types of driver’s licenses, small vehicles such as motorcycles and bicycles are excluded, and only medium or large vehicles are recognized.
You cannot take the test immediately after receiving your driver’s license, and you must have held your driver’s license for two years before you can take the cargo transport worker certification test.
If you have held your driver’s license for less than 2 years, but have more than 1 year of experience driving a commercial truck, you can take the test.
That is, only one of the conditions below needs to be met.
In order to take the cargo transport worker certification test, you must first pass a thorough driving aptitude test. The detailed driving aptitude test is a test that evaluates vision, spatial judgment, attention, and reaction speed necessary for safe driving.
It tests basic physical and behavioral abilities to drive, so most people who have a driver’s license can pass with ease.
The detailed driving aptitude test is conducted by the Korea Transportation Safety Authority and can be taken by making a reservation online or by phone.
There are two ways to take the cargo transport worker certification test: a CBT (computer written test), which is a general regular testing method for national certification, and an experiential training method that is obtained after completing all training on the same day.
In other words, you can take the cargo transport worker certification test by choosing one of the two options below. In the case of experiential education number 2, it is also called the ‘no exam’ method because testing and certificate issuance are conducted simultaneously at the training site.
First, I will tell you about the first CBT test method. CBT is a written test conducted on a computer. Tests are conducted four times a day at permanent testing centers in 13 regions across the country, including Seoul, Suwon, Daejeon, and Busan.
As briefly explained above, the method of obtaining a cargo transport worker certification without a test involves receiving 16 hours of theoretical and practical training at the Education and Safety Experience Training Center, being evaluated immediately on site, and receiving the certificate.
It is a very convenient method because the entire writing, practical, and evaluation process is completed within two days.
However, since the 16-hour training is not conducted in one day but over two days, unless you live near the training center, you will need to reserve separate accommodation for one night.
While many CBT test centers are located in 13 regions across the country, the disadvantage is that there are only two experiential education test centers nationwide. Another difference is that CBT tests are held more than 4 times a day, while experiential training is held only 2 to 3 times a month.
There are pros and cons to each test method, so you can choose one based on your time and physical circumstances.
