To celebrate the expansion of free transportation for senior citizens, the city held a commemorative ceremony at the Hyangnam Transfer Bus Terminal and delivered transportation cards to the Hwaseong City Branch of the Korean Senior Citizens Association.
Mayor Seo Cheol-mo said, “Free transportation is a sustainable policy that responds to the climate crisis by guaranteeing the right to movement, which is a basic right of citizens, and further reducing carbon emissions by expanding the use of public transportation.” He added, “We will continue to expand eco-friendly public transportation policies along with the public bus system.” “I will do it,” he said.
Previously, Hwaseong City has been implementing a free transportation system for children and adolescents aged 7 to 18 for the first time in the metropolitan area since November of last year.
As of last May, the number of children and adolescents who used free transportation was approximately 30,000, and the total transportation expenses paid since the system was implemented amounted to approximately 460 million won.
