2024년 최저시급The minimum wage to be applied next year was confirmed to be 9860, an increase of 240 won (2.5%) from this year’s hourly wage of 9620 won. If converted to monthly salary based on 40 hours a week and 209 hours a month, it is 2,060,740 won.
The Minimum Wage Committee (Chairman Park Jun-sik, Executive Committee Member) held its 15th plenary meeting at the Sejong Government Complex in the early morning of the 19th and decided on the minimum wage for 2024.
Both labor and management presented demands of 10,580 won (10% increase) and 9,805 won (1.9% increase), respectively, at the 14th plenary meeting on the afternoon of the 18th, but were unable to narrow down their opinions.
At the request of both labor and management, public interest committee members proposed a range of KRW 9,820 (2.1% increase) to KRW 10,150 (5.5% increase) as the deliberation promotion range, taking into account the wages and cost of living of similar workers.
Subsequently, the 15th plenary meeting was held to change the session at midnight on the 19th to continue discussions within the deliberation promotion section, and both labor and management presented demands of 10,020 won (4.2% increase) and 9,840 won (2.3% increase), respectively. The gap was narrowed to 180 won.
The public interest committee members held a steering committee meeting under the judgment that the gap between labor and management had been narrowed to a level where an agreement was possible, and proposed an hourly wage of 9,920 won (3.12% increase) to both labor and management as an adjustment plan, but this was opposed by the 4 worker committee members recommended by the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions. No agreement was reached. All worker members (4 people), all employer members (9 people), and all public interest committee members (9 people) recommended by the Federation of Korean Trade Unions agreed.
Accordingly, the final proposals of labor and management of 10,000 won (3.95% increase) and 9,860 won (2.5% increase) were submitted and put to a vote, respectively, and the 9,860 won approved by 17 people was voted on. As for 10,000 won, 8 people were in favor, and 1 person abstained.
