I went to Wonju, Gangwon-do with my family for fall camping. Let me introduce you to Yangpyeong Rest Area, a famous highway rest area that I stopped by on my way to Wonju, Gangwon-do. Since I’m traveling with children, I often go to highway rest areas, and it’s also a rest area I stop by to refuel or have a variety of convenient facilities. Yangpyeong Rest Area is located in the Wonju direction of the Gwangju-Wonju Expressway and is named as a rest area where romance can be found.

I think I often look for places that have delicious food, things to see, well-maintained rest areas, and various convenience facilities. Highway rest areas seem to be another place to enjoy and relax while traveling.

Yangpyeong Rest Area, a rest area on the highway toward Wonju, is a newly opened rest area that is clean, well maintained, and has a neat image. These days, each rest area is doing business by offering its own signature menu, restaurants, and unique menus. Yangpyeong Rest Area, which we are introducing today, is one of the rest areas where you can eat local food using various representative ingredients from Gangwon-do. Then, I will introduce Gwangju-Wonju Sosokdo Road Rest Area and Yangpyeong Rest Area in the direction of Wonju~♪

▼ Expressway Rest Area Yangpyeong Rest Area is located at 52 Songseok 2-gil, Yangdong-myeon, Yangpyeong-gun, Gyeonggi-do, on the Gwangju-Wonju Expressway in the direction of Wonju. Although Yangpyeong Rest Area is not very large, it is a rest area that offers a variety of food and is considered one of the best highway rest area restaurants.

▼ Yangpyeong Rest Area is also a popular rest area as many people travel to Gangwon-do. There are differences between various highway rest areas, and there are some rest areas that people intentionally go to or avoid, but Yangpyeong rest area is clean, neat, well-maintained, and well-equipped, so there were a lot of tourists there.

▼ I looked around the snack corner at Yangpyeong Rest Area to buy some snacks with the kids. There is a wide variety of snacks sold at other rest areas, including squid, fried whole meat skewers, octopus and vegetable fish cake bars, red pepper squid fish cake bars, small rice cakes, tornado potatoes, corn, cheese balls, whole potatoes, and hot dogs.

▼ The snacks the kids chose at Yangpyeong Rest Area were old-fashioned hot dogs and chewy cheese balls. Although it is not a food I enjoy eating on a regular basis, it seems like it would be fun to choose and eat it at a highway rest area. When I come to a rest area, everything looks delicious and buying and eating it seems like another happiness. The crispy fried hot dogs and cheese balls without sauce were also delicious.

Perhaps because it was getting chilly, I saw a lot of travelers eating hot soup menu items. As a restaurant specializing in home-cooked meals, there is also a Mongeul soft tofu pot rice store from Pulmuone, making it a hearty and warm meal. Orders can be placed using the kiosk.

 

▼ There is also an outdoor terrace inside the Yangpyeong Rest Area store. Yangpyeong Rest Area has the feel of a light restaurant rather than a typical rest area. Tablecloths are laid out on the tables, so it is a space where you can have a meal in a cozy atmosphere while looking out at the outdoors, which is a unique feature of Yangpyeong Rest Area.

▼ Although Yangpyeong Rest Area is not very large in size, it is a place where you can take a quick look at a variety of things, including a nursing room, Hi-Pass charging, various specialty product stores, and a small bookstore.

The Yangpyeong Rest Area on the Gwangju-Wonju Expressway towards Wonju is small, but I was able to see a variety of stores and unique menus and stores. When I travel, I naturally visit rest areas frequently, so I tend to look for special rest areas or rest areas with clean facilities. I went to Yangpyeong Rest Area happily because it was a clean, well-maintained and quiet rest area. If you are on the Gwangju-Wonju Expressway heading towards Wonju, I recommend taking a break with some delicious food at Yangpyeong Rest Area.
