Netflix announced that it will invest 550 billion won in Korea this year, but Disney Korea did not reveal the exact investment amount.
During the press conference held remotely that day, Disney Korea avoided giving direct answers to sensitive questions such as the amount of investment in Korean content or copyright issues. However, when asked about the network usage fee, it indirectly answered that it would pay the network usage fee, saying, “We will be a good corporate citizen.”

Walt Disney Company Korea held a press conference on the 14th and introduced ‘Disney+’, which will be launched on November 12th. Jay Trinidad, head of direct-to-consumer business for The Walt Disney Company Asia Pacific, said, “Korea is sweeping the global content and entertainment industry by capturing the hearts of audiences around the world with outstanding cultural content. “Through the launch of Disney Plus in Korea, we hope to introduce the best global entertainment to domestic consumers and at the same time showcase Korea’s creative excellence to audiences around the world,” he said.
Disney Plus’ subscription fee is 9,900 won per month or 99,000 won per year. Disney Plus can be accessed on up to 4 devices simultaneously, and downloads are supported on up to 10 mobile devices. Disney Plus can be viewed on various devices such as mobile and tablet devices, smart TVs, and can also be accessed through LG U+ IPTV and mobile, LG Hello Vision cable TV, and KT Mobile.
Although the press conference was held non-face-to-face, numerous questions were asked. When asked about the difference of Disney Plus, Disney answered, “Various contents accumulated over 30 years,” and especially recommended contents with thick fan bases such as Star Wars and Marvel.
Questions about investment in Korean content production continued, but Disney Korea did not disclose the exact investment amount. However, they stated abstractly, “We will strive to provide diverse local content and grow together,” and “We will actively invest on a large scale.” As questions about the exact amount continued to come in, they drew the line, saying, “It is difficult to announce the amount.”
